Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison in East Texas is a federal program, 'Reach out and Read', it's a program that provides books to pre-schoolers whose parents take them to the doctor. The idea is a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Hutchison said, "we all know that if a child can read at grade level in the third gradethat child is probably going to stay in school, be able to learn and love learning and that is the recommendation for success." Hutchison also states that she is aware of inflation and that books aren't priority right now for parents to be spending money on. She would also like to continue to recieve title money and federal money to aide the situation.
I chose this article because it caught my attention because of the importance of this 'Reach out and Read' program. I feel reading is very important and should always be put before most things with children. Reading opens several door and leads to creative minds. I agree with Hutchison's support for this program. I feel that more money should be available for education. Without education what kind of future can we look forward to?
