The idea is a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Hutchison said, "we all know that if a child can read at grade level in the third gradethat child is probably going to stay in school, be able to learn and love learning and that is the recommendation for success." Hutchison also states that she is aware of inflation and that books aren't priority right now for parents to be spending money on. She would also like to continue to recieve title money and federal money to aide the situation.

I chose this article because it caught my attention because of the importance of this 'Reach out and Read' program. I feel reading is very important and should always be put before most things with children. Reading opens several door and leads to creative minds. I agree with Hutchison's support for this program. I feel that more money should be available for education. Without education what kind of future can we look forward to?

www.mercurynews.com

Hutchison opposes Senate plan

Hutchison teamed up with Sen. John Cornyn and refused to back down from their compromise on immigration. Hutchison and Cornyn met with other Senators on the proposed compromise in Frist's office Wednesday to help bring down some of the restrictions being put on immigrants before enetring the United States and for them to gain citizenship in the United States. They together put some ideas together that the Republicans plan to offer when the bill goes to the floor. Hutchison stated, "I oppose allowing illegal immigrants to obtain legal residency before those who enetred legally".

I myself am not sure how I feel about this. I do think that all immigrants should be required to have to go through obstacles before entering the United States. So many are in our country now and are stealing jobs from legal citizens. They also are commiting crimes and "taking up space". Hopefully within time this matter will be sorted out and everyone will be happy.

www.KWTX.com

Hutchison strongly opposes the compromise that is being developed in the Senate on immigration reform. Also, they are looking to improve teachers salaries.
I feel that Hutchison is smart to go and show her support for other canidates running in primary elections. It shows that she doesn't stand alone and is always willing to help out others and boost their popularity with the citizens. Also, I stand behind both of their campaigns and beliefs. I feel that they are working for the people and not against the people.

www.gainesvilleregister.com

The newest addition to the election is independent canidate, Robert V. Belt. He hopes to change Texas and create it into a blue-collar state. After primaries, Belt will need about 500,000 signatures and tons of help. Belt is aware of the tough challenge ahead running against the incumbent Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. He thinks he has a chance while others think he is in for a disappointment.
Regarding the issues the canidates support Belt complains that "Hutchison allegedely insists on championing sure thing causes, and rarely takes on issues that have little public or Congressional support."
In conclusion, Belt calls himself, " a rebel with a cause." I feel that he has very valid points in running fore Texas Senator. I believe everyone has a fair shot and should be given a chance to run for office. With the popularity of Hutchison though, I feel that Belt may not gain the needed amount of signatures to advance on. Independent canidates to have a hard and rough challenge while preparing to face opponents in the primaries, but people should never count them out to quickly.

http://feeds.the dallasnews.net

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is running against a very determined Democratic canidate. Barabara Radnofsky is in her first political campaign and faces the challenge of defeating the very popular incumbent Hutchison. Radnofsky says that Hutchison "is not nearly as moderate as people thought." Hutchison has an approval rating of 70% and a campaign fund at nearly 8 million dollars. Radnofsky is prepared to battle a tough and very expensive trip to the March 7 primary election.
Radnofsky expresses her opinions of Hutchison in a very professional manner. Radnofsky plans to take her campaign statewide with three main issues: veterans, health care, and education. Hutchison has only recently added the veterans' hospital as one her campaign issues. As Radnofsky continues to speak freely of Hutchisons' campaign, Hutchison still remains silent regarding her opponent and plans on staying quiet until after the primaries.
In my opinion, Radnofsky is coming on strong and will try her best to give Hutchison a run for her money. The two canidates feel very strongly about issues and will do their best to stress to the public the important factors needed to win this election. Radnofsky does face obsatcles because Hutchison is very popular within the state of Texas and has the upper hand. Radnofsky has stated repeatly she will not back down and will stay in this campaign as long as she can. I feel she is a strong canidate with very valid issues and ideas.

January 31, 2006

www.dallasnews.com

As time passes on it's time for all members of Congress, House, and the Senate to post their campaign money and how it was raised. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, has raised a hefty amount of $ 7.82 million to spend on her bid for a third term in the U.S. Senate. As the deadline was set for Tuesday, Senators running for position have to file their reports on paper with the Secratary of the Senate and must have it sent certified, registered, or overnight mail. The campaign funds then become published and reported to the web. Hutchison still faces no opposition in the Republican primaries in March. Barbara Radnofsky's still in the race for the Democratic party and hopes to be challenging Hutchison in the November race.
I feel Hutchison still remains in the "hot seat" with Radnofsky, but will pull through for a re-election of her third six-year term. Hutchison reamins very popular in the state of Texas through her current term and seems to be very involved in her work. She holds a crucial position and I feel is an important assest to all of Texas.

http://www.mysanantonio.com

January 24, 2006

Houston attorney Barbara Radnofsky has been traveling through Texas in effort to persuade Texans that their state is in desperate need of change. Radnofsky has announced plans to run for the Democratic nomination in March in sole purpose of having a victory against Kay Bailey Hutchison. Kay Bailey Hutchison has held the position of Texas Senator for 12 years and is seeking re-election. Radnofsky states, " She's had 12 long years. and it's time for someone new." She also slammed Hutchison for supporting a $286 billion transportation bill that was approved by the Senate in July. Hutchison's campaign manager, Matt Matthews defended Hutchison in the gas tax increase. Texans in 1993 only recieved 76 cents back on each dollar spent, but now after her two years in legislation Hutchison has raised it to 96 cents given back.
I think Radnofsky's bashing of Hutchison is not affecting her campaign. Hutchison appears to be liked by Texans and I feel she has great chance for re-election.
